EOI points for 189 with 85 points in software engineering

189

Sunday 26 April 2026

I have a positive skills assessment as a software engineer, superior English, and 85 points for the 189 before state nomination. I know invitations change all the time, but I'm trying to decide whether to wait for 189 or also submit 190 EOIs. Is there any downside to having both open if the information is accurate?

485 > 189

Your occupation and points matter, but invitation rounds can still be unpredictable. I would not build a plan that assumes one specific subclass will arrive on time.

491 > 191

I did 189, 190, and 491 at the same time because I wanted options. It did make tracking dates and documents more annoying, so keep a spreadsheet.

190

Many people submit separate EOIs for 189 and 190. The key is making sure the state-specific answers are correct and that you are willing to meet any nomination conditions.
