482 sponsor change while 186 pathway is still the goal

I'm currently on a 482 and my employer has talked about supporting a 186 later, but another company has offered a better role. If I move sponsors, does the time with my current employer stop counting for the 186 TRT pathway? I am trying to work out whether the better job is worth resetting the clock.

If your points are strong enough, keep independent skilled options alive as well. Employer-sponsored plans can change quickly if the business changes direction.

I would also ask the new employer about their actual sponsorship history, not just whether they are open to it. Some companies say yes casually and then delay later.

For TRT, the sponsoring employer and nominated occupation details matter, so a sponsor change can change the timeline. It is worth checking the current rules before deciding.
